New York, you’re in for the finest kind of surprise as The Book of Mormon, one of Broadway’s wittiest, cleverest, and most comedic plays is arriving and performing in New York on Wednesday 11th September 2024 at the one and only Eugene O'Neill Theatre! Take part in a musical performance that makes you fall in love with classical musicals, full of hysterical and comedic twists.
Produced from a collaboration of the creators of the famous comedy TV show South Park and the play Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon features two Latter-day Saints (LDS) missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they try to convert local villagers in Uganda. In similar fashion to their previous creations, the musical takes the serious subject of religion and satirizes it through both writing and music.
As Ben Brantley of The New York Times shares, just like South Park, it is “also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show”.
Don't miss your chance to be part of the audience and get a seat to this spectacular show, before they're all gone!

Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham are two coming of age Mormon missionaries tasked with a mission to a native Ugandan village. Their goal is to convert the locals to their religion, but they realize upon their arrival that their job is more difficult than they had realized, given the great deal of local issues that the villagers are against such as oppression, an HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty among others. The pair then gradually realize that they must use more unique methods to convert the population than the traditional way that they know.
It is in the pair’s unique dynamic where the performance of The Book of Mormon is outstanding – allowing a serious topic of religion to be blasphemed and made fun of with comedy, showtunes, and a bit of rude language, yet still remaining inoffensive to theatre fans. Since its debut in 2011, the Broadway play has been received positively despite its manner of sharing its story. The church itself supported the musical, buying ads and releasing marketing marketing material that stated: “You’ve seen the play, now read the book.” In its West End productions, the repeatedly sold-out shows were a testament to The Book of Mormon’s success. Though most viewers were already eagerly curious given the content and theme of the play, according to The Guardian, it was even to their surprise that “suddenly you realize you’re in for not just humour but a seriously fine night of entertainment, and it just keeps on getting better.” The musical’s run in Australia also loved by theatre fans, with the Sydney Morning Herald even declaring that the Book of Mormon is a “dynamite production of a show that can lay fair claim to being the funniest Broadway musical of all time.”
What comes as no surprise however is that because of the musical's creativity, The Book of Mormon’s several productions worldwide have earned it nine Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Circle Critics awards, four Olivier Awards, and two Helpmann Awards.
This upbeat, happy, and totally silly play continues its tour in New York.
