Originating from Broadway, it’s time for New York to fall in love with theatre again as the musical comedy Book of Mormon will be coming to in New York at Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Friday 29th November 2024.
The witty and sometimes rude and crude musical Book of Mormon follows the story of two Mormon Elders in training to become missionaries – Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, who are tasked with a mission to a remote village in Uganda to preach to its residents. The Broadway show deliberately satirizes religion in general through the eyes of the pair, as Cunningham comes up with fact mixed with fiction to teach religion to the locals.
The Book of Mormon was produced by Robert Lopez, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone, the same creators of the animated TV series South Park and the musical Avenue Q.

Launching in 2011, The Book of Mormon has undoubtedly been one of the most successful Broadway musicals since its inception. Conceptualized by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, the musical was inspired by the Latter-day Saints (LDS) founder and prophet Joseph Smith and his Book of Mormon. The show was originally meant to debut off Broadway at the New York Theatre workshop after its 2008 staged reading, though this turned out to be just a prelude as its actual launch in 2011 moved to a more prominent location at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
After a year, the Broadway play was already greenlit for a U.S. national tour that lasted four years, including a season in Salt Lake City, Utah! The show also continued on to be produced in several locations, with a Chicago production performed in 2012, a West End production in 2013, and Australian and Swedish productions both performed in 2017.
The story and execution of this musical were key components to this success. It narrates the story of Elder Kevin Price and Elder Arnold Cunningham, two Mormon missionaries who embark on a mission to spread their religion in a remote village in Uganda. It is there that they struggle with the local issues that the villagers face, as well as their different methods in preaching their religion, given that Cunningham lies to the villagers by injecting hilarious tales woven from science fiction and fantasy stories into his sermons, while Price is resolved to teach the villagers in the usual, orthodox manner. The way the Book of Mormon is shared with the audience is performed in quite an unorthodox manner as well, usually satirizing religion in its script and also injecting humor in both of its acts, and of course, let's not forget the showtunes!
For its current season, the Book of Mormon will be in New York in November at the magnificent theatre venue of Eugene O'Neill Theatre, which holds an amazing stage, sound system and acoustics, and favorite facilities that is fit for this critically-acclaimed musical.
